The Night Johnny Ace Died by James Lee Burke

"Life is hard in the honky-tonk. If the booze or the peckerwoods don't get you, there's still The Gin Fizz Kitty from Texas City."

A beautiful babe, shady managers, a chap named The Greaser and a ole lot of Blues...

This is the short story I recommend to you, read it here:http://www.esquire.com/fiction/ESQ0307fiction

I Bring You: A Scanner Darkly

This is just a little somethin' somethin' of "A Scanner Darkly", that movie I saw at IndieLisboa last week, where after shooting real live actors they drew upon them using a thecnique called Rotoscopia. Doesn't it look awesome?! Richard Linklater showing once again he's one of the most ingenious directors in the biz.

Alec Baldwin Who Else?!

This is Alec Baldwin's monologue in James Foley's "Glengarry Glen Ross"(1992). Written by David Mamet, this film has one of the most astonishing casts ever put toghether: Al Pacino, Jack Lemmon, Alan Arkin, Alec Baldwin, Ed Harris, Kevin Spacey e Jonathan Pryce, all at the top of their games, what more to say...

Ladies and Gents: Kevin Spacey!

You've gotta see this...

The Jacket

Jack Starks: "Sometimes I think we live through things only to be able to say that it happened. That it wasn't to someone else, it was to me. Sometimes we live to beat the odds. I'm not crazy even though they thought I was. I live in the same world as everyone else. I just saw more of it, as I'm sure you have. They'll find my body tomorrow. You can check it out if you don't believe me. I've seen life after my death, and I'm telling you this because it's the only way to help you and your daughter have a better life of your own. Jean, you're gonna pass out one day smoking a cigarette and burn to death. Your daughter grows up living the same life you're living right now. And she misses you so much. Sometimes life can only really begin with the knowledge of death. That it can all end, even when you least want it to. The important thing in life is to believe that while you're alive, it's never too late. I promise you, Jean, no matter how bad things look, they look better awake than they do asleep. When you die, there's only one thing you want to happen. You wanna come back."

The Shinning

Kill Bill vol.2

The Bride: Looked dead, didn't I? But I wasn't. But it wasn't from lack of trying, I can tell you that. Actually, Bill's last bullet put me in a coma - A coma I was to lie in for four years. When I woke up, I went on what the movie advertisements refer to as a 'roaring rampage of revenge.' I roared. And I rampaged. And I got bloody satisfaction. I've killed a hell of a lot of people to get to this point, but I have only one more. The last one. The one I'm driving to right now. The only one left. And when I arrive at my destination, I am gonna kill Bill.

The Endorsment: Rage

Life's a bitch, and then, you die.

By Scott Raab

Fuck you. That's right -- fuck you. I've got your anger-management technique right here, dangling. Check it out -- and while you're down there, kiss my crack.

I'm sorry -- did I say that out loud? Really loud? Tough shit, dickweed. I do a lot of screaming, mostly profane. First off, I live and drive in north Jersey. Number two, my wife's a woman. Three, my idiot dog barks if a squirrel farts. Plus -- I gotta tell ya -- rage makes me feel so alive.

I don't only scream, of course. I like to hammer the phone down into the cradle. I like to slam a door so hard that pictures fall off the wall. In quiet moments, I seethe. My son I handle with kid gloves. "I got all the spelling words right," he'll tell me. "Whaddaya want," I'll say, "a medal?" I sleep angry.

Without rage, I'm dead. I can't recommend it to everyone; maybe, like perfect pitch, you either have it or you don't. I'm not sure it even has much to do with New Jersey or my wife and dog. I blame mortality -- death itself. Sweet deal: Do everything right and die. Even better: Know it every second of your life.

Yo, God: Fuck you.

Jack Nicholson

"It's what people feel comfortable liking, and I think all actors simplify as they go on. You get to where you get less mannered, but at the same time, reality could be a trap as an actor, too. In other words, I wouldn't like to be an actor if I could only be real. I like to get wild, behaviorally wild, and it's crazy to think of any form where it's just one way. You know, there are a lot of different forms of movies, but the criteria always seem to be bound. But in the end, we say to ourselves, "If it works, that's it." If I suddenly start talking in a Japanese accent in the middle of a scene, if it works, that's fine. If it doesn't, it's no good. But no matter how unbelievable the circumstances, you always come at it the same way."

Heat

Vincent Hanna: My life's a disaster zone. I got a stepdaughter so fucked up because her real father's this large-type asshole. I got a wife, we're passing each other on the down-slope of a marriage - my third - because I spend all my time chasing guys like you around the block. That's my life.

Neil McCauley: A guy told me one time, "don't let yourself get attached to anything you are not willing to walk out on in thirty seconds flat if you feel the heat around the corner". Now, if you're on me and you gotta move when I move, how do you expect to keep a... a marriage?

The Emperor's Club

As I've gotten older, I realize I'm certain of only two things. Days that begin with rowing on a lake are better than days that do not. Second, a man's character is his fate.

Mr. Scruff - Get A Move On

June 1999 saw the highly talented Andy Carthy, the man behind Mr. Scruff’s mask, release the hit album "Keep It Unreal". The record had some good songs but its success was mostly due to the viciously addictive "Get A Move On". With a slick jazzy vibe and delicious vinyl sound, the song was soon a usual presence on the speakers of every cool joint on the planet.

I've never loved anybody this way. Never looked at a woman and thought, if civilization fails, if the world ends, I'll still understand what God meant.
